I already take great notes, so why should I Mind Map?

Mind Mapping uses both the creative mind and the logical mind, which improves both memory and creativity. A creative thinker often connects thoughts and ideas in ways that appear to be random to an outside observer. Mind Mapping allows you to create powerful connections that might be missed if information is only organized using linear methods.

Do I have to draw to be good at Mind Mapping?

No, you do not need to draw. You can use words and lines. Your completed Mind Map becomes a mental image, and much like a picture activates a creative part of your brain. You might become inspired to start doodling and drawing, though, which may enhance your Mind Mapping enjoyment.

How does Mind Mapping increase my mind power?

The process of Mind Mapping builds long term memory connections. Mind Mapping uses both the creative and logical areas of your mind. When both areas are used together, this has been proven to increase intelligence. Mind Mapping is like a plant. The main idea comes from a core or seed thought. Everything else stems from that main point. Branches, twigs, and stems show the relationship and relevancy of each of the ideas.

Just like a plant there are two key parts:

  1. What you see above the ground, the leaves, are the ideas, and the flowers and fruits are what came of the ideas; and
  2. The roots of the plant are the unseen, yet important network that supports the plant’s growth. Mind mapping puts roots into your long term memory and forms ideas and insights that you can use.
